A court in Tangail on Monday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife in 2012.

Judge Khaleda Yasmin of Tangail Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal passed the order while the convicted Ashraful Islam stood in the court.

The convicted person is identified as Ashraful Islam, 27, son of late Shahjahan Mia, hailing from Garasin village of Delduar upazila under Tangail district.

According to the case statement, Ashraful beat his wife Saleha, 24, to death following a dowry on August 18, 2012.

Later, victim’s father filed a case with Deduar Police Station accusing Ashraful of the murder the next day.

S Akbar Khan, assistant public prosecutor of Tangail Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, confirmed the matter.
